The Flower Garden Quilt

This quilt was made by my maternal great-grandmother, Nancy Steele Sibley, in 1949, for my mother. It covered my parents’ bed for decades, and is frayed at the edges and torn and threadbare throughout. Great-grandma used a white muslin background for the top and also for the back, solid green for the leaves of the flowers, and for the flowers themselves, leftover fabric scraps from the dresses she made. The quilt is constructed with small hexagon shapes that were sewn together by hand. She outline-quilted the entire quilt by hand. Size: 85″ x 85″
