Country Folk Quilt

While rummaging around in the basement of an estate sale, I found these hand-embroidered muslin squares of animals, buried under a pile of old linens. Penny squares like these were popular in the early 1900’s, although these squares were most likely embroidered in the 1940’s. I designed the quilt around them, incorporating a block design dating to 1897 that resembled a barn door.
